About Acorn & Mighty Oaks

Our History

Acorn Pre-School has a long history, we were established in 1971 and sessions were held in the Baptist Church Hall, Bedford Road and then later in the Methodist Church Hall, Ampthill Road. In January 2006 the Pre-School committee were approached to build a new school which would enable us to improve our facilities as well as provide wrap around care to fit in with new government plans.

Our new premises officially opened on 26th April 2008. This is a purpose built, purpose designed building for our Pre-School and Wrap Around Care which has enabled us to offer even better Pre-School facilities to Shefford and the surrounding villages.

About Acorn Pre School

We offer Pre-School education for children aged 2 to 5. The maximum number of children in our Pre-School is 26 per session. We are open from 9.05am to 3.15pm. We offer children the opportunity to learn through play in a stimulating and nurturing environment. We recognise that every child is an individual with their own character, abilities, sense of humour and needs.

About Mighty Oaks

We run a breakfast, and after school club for children who attend the Pre-School, Shefford Lower School and Robert Bloomfield Academy. Breakfast Club  (7:45am – 9.05am) and After School Club (3.15pm – 6:00pm) is open to children aged 2 to 14 years and runs Monday to Friday.

We were very pleased to be awarded a good grading during an inspection in December 2017.

"Children of all ages play together well and their behaviour is good. They listen well to staff and are keen to help set up the daily activities."

"Parents speak highly of the staff and appreciate the nurturing environment where children feel safe and secure. They feel the good education the children receive prepares them well for starting school."

"The motivated staff team has a good understanding of how children learn. They organise the environment indoors and outdoors very successfully."
