What we do at Mighty Oaks
Our Wrap Around Care service, Mighty Oaks, we offer before and after school care.
Children attend from Acorn Pre-School, Shefford Lower School and Robert Bloomfield Academy.
Breakfast Club from 7:45am
After School Club till 6pm
We provide a safe, relaxing, healthy, social and fun environment for children who attend.
If your child attends Shefford Lower School we will safely escort them from our Breakfast Club and into the school building. At the end of the day we collect them from their classroom, escorting them to After School Club at 3.20pm.
For children attending from Robert Bloomfield Academy we ensure that they are at the school for 8.40am. At the end of the day we meet them at a central point for return to Mighty Oaks.
We offer fun activities for the children, they have access to our outdoor area all year round. The children can choose the activities and the toys, they also have can vote and request for new toys and activities.
We have planned weekly activities and these have included: Photo Booth Evening, Planting Sunflowers, Science Week, Cooking Evenings and much much more. The Mighty Oaks Children's Committee share their ideas, plan main events and gather requests for new resources.
Staff and Management
Mighty Oaks is an associated activity of Acorn Pre-School. The management is also overseen by the Management Committee who are responsible for ensuring the implementation of our policies and procedures. Mighty Oaks is overseen by Manager, who also manages the Pre-School. On a daily basis Maureen, our Deputy Manager, is supported by a team of excellent Practitioners and assistants, who also work at Acorn Pre-School ensuring continuity for the children attending. All our staff hold Pediatric First Aid Qualifications.

Mighty Oaks is inspected along side our Pre-School provision.

- After School Club
Breakfast Club is open to children who attend Pre-School up to Year 8 at Robert Bloomfield Academy and is open Monday - Friday 7.45 am - 9.05am. Children will be provided with breakfast comprising cereal/toast and a drink of milk, water or fruit juice. We also have theme days where breakfast might include pancakes, boiled eggs or bacon sandwiches. Mighty Oaks staff operate a walking bus to take children of school age into Shefford Lower School by 9.00am. Care is continuous for those Pre-School children attending Breakfast Club, followed by the morning Pre-School session.
Robert Bloomfield children are dropped off at the school entrance point.
After School Club is open to children who attend the Pre-School and up to year 8 at Robert Bloomfield Academy and is open every day from 3.15pm - 6.00pm. Sessions are available until 4.30pm, 5.00pm, 5.30pm and 6.00pm. Children are provided with a light snack and drinks. Children from Robert Bloomfield Academy make their own way to Acorn once they are happy to do so and Mighty Oaks Staff operate a walking bus to collect children from their classrooms inside Shefford Lower School and take them to After School Club. Care is continuous for those Pre-School children attending After School Club.
Although we have weekly themes, there is always a wide variety of activities available. Activities are adjusted according to the individual child's age, stage of development and interests. Children always have access to the outdoor area, library, Wii or Playstation games consoles, arts and crafts and tablet computers.
